Are your eyelids low-lying and drooping making you look fatigued?
Upneeq is the only FDA-approved prescription eyedrop for acquired ptosis (low-lying lids) that lifts your upper eyelids to open your eyes.Upneeq works by stimulating an involuntary eyelid muscle, the Muller’s muscle, to contract.
What is UPNEEQ?
UPNEEQ® (oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution), 0.1% is a prescription eyedrop used to treat low-lying lids (acquired blepharoptosis) in adults.
How does Upneeq work for low-lying (or droopy) eyelids?
The Müller’s muscle is found in the eyelid and helps keep it at a certain height when the eye is open.
The active ingredient in Upneeq works by targeting the Müller’s muscle, which makes it contract and lift the upper eyelid. This makes more of the iris and white of the eye visible, which makes the treated eye look bigger.
What is Ptosis (low lying eyelids)?
Ptosis occurs when the upper eyelid of one or both eyes droops over your eye. The droop may be barely noticeable or the eyelid can sag to such an extent that it covers your pupil (the black dot at the centre of your eye that lets light in). Ptosis can limit or even completely block normal vision and can affect both children and adults.
What are the risk to being diagnosed with Ptosis?
If your eyelids are drooping, it could be a sign of an underlying medical condition. Low-lying lids may be related to conditions such as stroke and/or brain aneurysm, Horner syndrome, myasthenia gravis, loss of the ability to move eye muscles, eye infection and eye tumors. Ask your doctor if you have any of these conditions.
